Ok so we all know from history class that when the Conquistadors came from Spain to the Americas, not only did they bring guns, horses, the wheel, and wheat; but also diseases such as smallpox. Now, smallpox is just a virus which is composed of genes made up of DNA and RNA. These small strands changed the history of the world.
Now imagine the reverse, what if the Natives had a disease that killed of the Spaniards and Pilgrims? What if the Europeans never had the chance to establish colonies, or explore the "New World"? That is exactly what happened with Africa. Europeans were not immune to tropical diseases, which left central Africa virtually undiscovered to the rest of the world until the development of modern medicine. The lack of outside influence is what has made Africa such a impoverished and starving nation. Imagine the Americas in the same state in which Africa is today. I won't even bother getting into all the details if the United States never existed, and the impact that would have on the world. But all this change sprouted just from one strand of DNA. Shows just how small of a change or force, can lead to such a large reaction.
